Warehouse Racking Installations

Warehouse Racking Installations

Although the design and manufacture of your storage equipment may meet the highest industry standards, its safety depends highly on warehouse racking installations. If your installers aren’t working to the specified criteria, it can impact your warehouse on multiple levels. Not only may it affect the integrity of your equipment but it could also leave you at risk of failing to meet regulations.

HSE guidelines on warehouse safety state that only competent people should install your racking.

Getting your installation right all comes down to choosing the right installer. It is a skilled job that requires a high level of practical and technical knowledge. However, most installers learn ‘on the job’ and over time it is very easy to pick up bad habits or even worse, not learn the correct methods in the first place. Also, it's important to note that experience does not automatically equate to quality.

To provide a benchmark for the industry, we have established the SEIRS training program. The training programme instructs installers on correct racking installation methods that follow SEMA standards. We offer five courses that build into a solid foundation for installers that covers of industry-specific issues, Health and Safety, practical instruction on installing storage equipment and a rigorous assessment process.

The HSE have established this national registration scheme to improve safety standards at the point of installation. The scheme is recognised as a best practice example of the industry regulating itself. Installers who have been through SEIRS demonstrate that they have built up a solid foundation of industry-specific knowledge and practical skills needed for installing racking structures. Importantly, for the industry, the course covers a significant amount of practical instruction. Installers only achieve their SEIRS status when they have passed an assessed element.

The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) also recognises SEIRS. If you are having a new warehouse or manufacturing facility built, the racking work may fall under the requirements for a construction site. Project or site managers may require their contractors to hold a CSCS card. Racking installations are a skilled trade and an installer can only get their CSCS card through the SEIRS training programme.
