Storage Equipment Training
Storage Equipment Training
Have you considered what warehouse training means for the racking in your warehouse? If a bad accident happens at your workplace, the HSE will visit your site to ensure you have put all the correct Health and Safety measures in place.
One key area that most Health and Safety guidance covers is the importance of training. Whether it's ensuring contractors are sufficiently trained for the work or providing your employees with the skills they need to perform their jobs safely.
To help warehouse owners, SEMA has developed a programme of training courses which cover the key stages of your storage equipment’s lifetime.
Racking Installation:
Training for racking installers plays an essential role when ensuring your storage equipment has been installed correctly in accordance with industry standards and manufacturer's specifications.

To provide a benchmark for the industry, we run our SEIRS training programme for installers of racking equipment. To gain their full qualification, installers must attend three days of training. This covers both general and industry-specific Health & Safety requirements and correct installation methods in accordance with SEMA standards. Importantly, the course includes practical instruction on how to install racking. Installers must then pass an assessed element to gain their qualification.
Rack Safety Awareness:
We also advocate training for your employees. Our Rack Safety Awareness course has been developed around the SEMA Users Code (and other guidance) and is very specific to end users' sites. The course will provide your employees with the skills and knowledge they need to work safely in areas with racking. It will also guide a member of your team on how to perform the weekly inspections as recommended by HSE.
The course provides guidance on the best inspection routine to implement and how to conduct a risk assessment. It will show the steps you need to record an inspection and report on damage levels and action points.
Racking Inspection:
You must also submit your racking to an ‘expert’ inspection undertaken by a ‘technically competent person’. To provide a clear benchmark for the industry SEMA operates a nationwide network of SEMA Approved Racking Inspectors (SARIs). It is worth noting that there are two very different types of inspection available. A damage-only inspection provides a list of damaged items and their location. Whereas the SARI inspection goes much further including suitability and compatibility of the equipment, rack configuration, and use of load notices.
Inspectors who undertake this professional qualification must successfully pass an intensive three-day training course, completion of both a written examination and practical assessment. This also includes committing to ongoing Continued Professional Development.
Held at SEMA’s head office in Burntwood, our courses are designed and delivered by experts to meet the needs of the warehouse industry.
