Industry Partnership
Through technical standardisation, SEMA has led on safety practices and our outputs are adopted nationally, across Europe and the world. Today, UK-wide, SEMA are the “warehouse industry partner and point of reference” on storage safety for the HSE, Local Authorities, RoSPA and the CSCS together with manufacturers (at both board and technical levels). We also play an important role in the BMHF and FEM and sit on many discussion groups which shape storage equipment guidelines and best practice documents.
SEMA has played an important role within the following organisations
- The British Materials Handling Federation (BMHF) constitutes the British National Committee of the Federation Europeenne de la manutention (FEM). It represents the interests of its member association on a European level. Each member company is involved in the design, manufacture or supply of materials handling equipment.
- The European Materials Handling Federation (FEM) ensures the seamless and efficient flow of goods. Currently consists of 13 members from the EU, as well as the UK and Turkey, FEM works towards providing a common vision for European materials handling, lifting, storage and warehouse industry.
- The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) is the leading skills certification scheme within the UK construction industry. The CSCS cards provide proof that individuals working on construction sites have the appropriate training and qualifications for the job they do, helping to improve standards and safety in UK construction.
- The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) is Britain’s national regulator for workplace health and safety. They dedicate themselves to protecting people and places and helping everyone lead safer and healthier lives. They advise and provide guidance and information that aims to influence change and assist people in managing risks at work.
