SEMA Codes and Guides

SEMA formalises its definitive work into a set of codes and guides that are not just for technicians and engineers but are directly relevant to all those involved with the management and safety of warehouse operations. Along with training, these SEMA publications provide a framework for our members to safely design, install, and use storage equipment manufactured and supplied by our members.

When initially planning your warehouse, the throughput requirement of your warehouse will determine the layout of the racking. However, considerations must also be given to the end-user or warehouse operational “need”. Throughout the process, we use SEMA publications, specifically Codes of Practice to ensure the racking works correctly with the other equipment. When in use, the product should also meet its purpose and fulfill requirements.

Such technology requires high levels of quality in design, manufacture, and installation. Over the years, SEMA has developed a series of relevant SEMA Publications, including "Codes of Practice" and guidelines which are acknowledged as the standards of the industry. The SEMA Codes publications are written specifically to reflect the design and maintenance of racking systems in the UK market by SEMA members. All SEMA Members conform with these standards outlined in SEMA publications.
