Welcome....

In this edition of our newsletter, we discuss things that are new and the opportunities available to promote your company!

If you turn to page three, we explain our new guidelines which outline where you can and cannot use each of the SEMA logos. We have taken this step to enhance the SEMA brand and enable your company to demonstrate its credentials to the industry. We also explain how your company can promote itself with SEMA’s links to the HSE. Turn to page four and we discuss all things social media. We explain how you can support SEMA and more importantly, how we can raise your company's profile.

Last but not least, we’re also going to be at IWLEX - a new event for the industry. If you’re going, why not pop along to our stand? You'll find us at D66.

Matt Grierson, President

Have You Heard About IWLEX?

Inside Warehouse & Logistics (IWLEX) 2023 is the new kid on the block when it comes to exhibitions and SEMA are going to be there!! The brand new event for the warehousing industry will be held at the Telford International Centre from 23rd to 24th May.

The B2B exhibition is being seen as a fresh and inclusive exhibition which is shaped by industry-leading businesses, suppliers and associations. The organisers are hoping to attract delegates who really matter within the warehouse and logistics sector. This means they will be an enthusiastic audience, ready to learn about the products and services from SEMA and our members.

We'll be promoting the event all over our social media platforms and we would like our SEMA members to encourage as many of your customers as possible to come along. Get them to visit us on Stand D66 and they could also be in with a chance of winning a free place on our Rack Safety Awareness Course (terms and conditions apply).

The event is free to attend and they can get a ticket by visiting www.iwlex23.eventreference.com/visitor.

SEIRS Hits New Milestone

In January 2022, we launched our new SEIRS training course with installers needing to pass both the Foundation and Diploma levels to become full qualified. The course is harder to pass and crucially includes a practical element on how to correctly install racking!

Just over a year after we launched new SEIRS, we have hit a milestone with over 250 installers qualified to Diploma Level.

We’re not stopping there - we’re running lots of courses throughout 2023!!

SEMA and the HSE!

Did you know….SEIRS and SARI are mentioned in HSG76?

As most of us should know, HSG76 Warehouse and Storage: A Guide to Health and Safety is produced by the HSE as a best practice document which, although not a legal requirement, following the advice is normally enough for our customers to comply with legislation.

Have you read it carefully? Did you know that under the Storage section of the document, there are references to our SEMA guidance and our initiatives?

On page 111 under racking installation it states:

‘Racking should only be installed by competent people in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. A programme of installation training is run under SEIRS (Storage Equipment Installers Registration Scheme), which is run by SEMA.'

On page 11 under racking installation it states:

‘Racking should have a clear unambiguous notice securely fixed to it, stating the maximum load together with any necessary specified load configurations. A typical notice is show in Figure 48 and more examples for other types of racking can be seen in the SEMA publication Load Notices. See also the SEMA publication Recommended practices for the safe use of static pallet racking.’

On page 115 under racking inspection it states:

'A programme of rack awareness training is run regularly by SEMA to address the issue of visual inspection and a more formal course is run to qualify expert inspectors under the SARI (SEMA Approved Rack Inspector) scheme.'’

It might be worthwhile referencing this on your website and any promotional material for example, we have been saying 'HSG76 references SEIRS/SARI as a dedicated programme of installation/inspection training.

Social Media

You can’t have failed to notice that social media is a great way to promote your business and services. That is why we made the decision to launch the SEMA LinkedIn account a couple of years ago. Our main aim for launching the account was to promote our initiatives, guidance and technical knowledge to help keep the industry safer. We also wanted to use the platform as an opportunity to promote the work of our members.

On the whole, the response from the industry has been positive and our following keeps growing. We could always do with your help and support!

So, if you want us to share as many of your posts as possible
or want to get your business noticed, follow these simple guidelines.
